Still lives

Photography for Giulio Obici was a passionate exercise in “looking” that led him to discover within the reality of the world: an informal picture (Walls), a surrealistic play (Sprites and Metropolitan gossip), a realistic work (Angles). Obici used the art lessons of the artistic avant-garde of the twentieth century in his everyday life, observing and expecting the shapes and the stories of the world to reveal and allow space for the imagination and phantasy. It would be a mistake not to think of Obici’s photos as fragments of one enormous narration which is the art of poetry of the photographer. Poetry which serves as the common denominator of every photo and which I think could be summarized as a revelation that removes the veil from the everyday and which allows us to see that which surrounds us, as though for the first time.
